Our own branch member, Catherine Roland, Ed.D., a professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology on the Washington D.C. campus, is the president-elect (2016-2017) of The American Counseling Association.

Dr. Roland is Chair of the Counseling Program at the Washington, D.C. Campus of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP), a leading nonprofit graduate school devoted exclusively to psychology and related behavioral and health sciences.  A licensed professional counselor in New Jersey and Arkansas, and a National Certified Counselor, Dr. Roland has been in private practice for 30 years and has worked at the university level for the past 24 years.

“Dr. Roland is one of the most respected leaders in the field of counselor education today,” said Dr. Heather Sheets, Campus Dean of Operations at The Chicago School’s Washington, D.C. Campus. “Her higher education management experience combined with her strong research skills will greatly enhance our program, and benefit our counseling students and faculty. We’re thrilled that she’ll be joining us.”

In her last position, Dr. Roland served as the Chairwoman of Georgia Regents University’s Department of Counselor Education, Leadership and Research. During her tenure there she was named the recipient of the American College Counseling Association’s 2013 Excellence in Professional Leadership Award. At Montclair State University, she served as Department Chair and Director of the Ph.D. in Counselor Education Program. While at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, she served as a tenured Associate Professor, Counselor Education.

Dr. Roland has been nationally active for 25 years with the American Counseling Association, and is in her second term as a Governing Council Representative. She is a team member and evaluator for the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programming, and has served as president of the Association for Adult Development and Aging (AADA). She also served as Chair and Originator of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision’s Career Connection, I and II.

Dr. Roland is currently the editor of “ADULTSPAN Journal,” the national peer-reviewed journal of the AADA, and has affiliations with such professional organizations as the American College Counseling Association, the Association for Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling and the Association for Creativity in Counseling. She is the recipient of several awards including the AADA’s Presidential Mentor Award and the University of Arkansas’ Outstanding Faculty Service Award and the Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award. Dr. Roland received both her M.Ed. and Ed.D. from the University of Cincinnati. She earned her B.A. from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.
