DCCA Officers & Trustee Election 2015-2016  is now open!

Nominations were opened pursuant to the By-Laws and the following candidates are presented. Candidates were properly vetted and are members of both DCCA and ACA, as required. Voting began at 7:00 am August 1, 2015 and closes at 7:00 pm on August 15, 2015. Information on accessing the electronic voting process was emailed on Saturday, August 1, 2015.

Candidate Biographies

Anthony Moore, Candidate for President Elect                             

Mr. Anthony Moore, a resident of the District of Columbia, is currently employed as a Licensed Professional Counselor at West Potomac High School, Alexandria, VA. He has worked in the counseling profession for over 18 years with experience at multiple high schools and middle schools in Fairfax County, VA and Prince George’s County, MD. His areas of concentration are individual and group counseling to students/parents in educational planning for high school; college; career planning; development of interpersonal relationships and concerns; and strategies to improve decision making, problem solving, personal and academic development. 

Mr. Moore holds certifications and licenses as follows: Virginia Pupil Personnel Services License, School Counselor Pre-K - 12 Endorsement; Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, State of Maryland; Domestic Violence Training, Duluth Model, Creating a Process of Change for Men Who Batter; and, Mediation Training and Restorative Justice Training I and 2. He is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the District of Columbia Counseling Association (DCCA).

Additionally, Mr. Moore earned his Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Management from Howard University, Washington, DC, a Master’s of Arts in Counseling, University of the District of Columbia, Washington, DC and a Doctor of Ministry, Maple Springs Baptist Bible College and Seminary, Capitol Heights, Maryland.

            
Sadiqa Long, NCC, LPC-DC, Candidate for Secretary

Ms. Sadiqa Long, currently employed as the Director of Counseling and Student Services at Cedar Tree Academy Public Charter School, has worked in the counseling profession, for six years and has experience working with students in settings of early childhood, elementary, middle and high school.  In addition to being a certified School Counselor, Ms. Long is also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in DC.  Prior to becoming a counselor, she began her career as a middle school teacher in Prince Georges County, MD. She is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA); American School Counseling Association (ASCA); National Association for the Education for Young Children (NAYEC); Chi Sigma Iota (CSI); District of Columbia Counseling Association (DCCA); Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) 

Ms. Long advocates for homeless families and serves as the McKinney Vento Liaison for Cedar Tree, ensuring that families have resources to help with stabilization.  Her primary areas of interest are trauma, bullying, mentoring and mental health.  Ms. Long earned an Associate of Arts Degree, General Education/Biology and Bachelor of Arts, English, West Virginia State University; Master of Arts, Counseling, Concentration: Professional Counseling Minor: School Counseling, Trinity University, Washington, DC and presently pursuing a Doctorate of Education degree in Counselor Education and Supervision at Argosy University- Washington, D.C.

Ashley Analicia Bedeau, Candidate for Trustee

Ms. Bedeau, currently employed as Center Aid/Achievement Coach/ Summer Teacher Higher Achievement at Marie Reed School, Washington, DC, is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology and earned a Certification in Ethics Training for Social and Behavioral Research at the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Trinity University, Washington, DC with an expected conferral date of December, 2017.

A scholar and emerging leader, Ms. Bedeau made the Dean’s List in Fall 2011 and Spring and Fall 2012. Well respected and a rising star in her field, she brings a youthful prospective and approach to DCCA and is highly recommended by Wendy Kliewer, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of the Psychology Department, Virginia Commonwealth University, currently a Fulbright research fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. Ms. Bedeau is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the District of Columbia Counseling Association (DCCA).

 
Marsha K. Pender, Candidate for Trustee

Marsha K. Pender, LPC, employed with the District of Columbia Public Schools for over thirty-five years, has held various teaching, counseling and administrative positions from Preschool to High School. Ms. Pender is currently employed as a Professional School Counselor at Ballou STAY High School (Department Chair) and is Board Certified from the District of Columbia.  She was formerly employed by the National Center for Education and the Economy.  Ms. Pender holds degrees from Hampton (Institute) University, George Washington University and Virginia Tech.

In 2009, she receive the Nathaniel Hill -DC School Counselors Association Outstanding Counselor Award and is a trainer for the Washington DC Teachers Union and has supervised Counseling Interns from various institutions, including University of the District of Columbia, Trinity University, Bowie State University, Howard University and Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Pender is a member and former Trustee for the District of Columbia Counseling Association (DCCA), a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), DC School Counseling Association, and Washington DC Teachers Union. Ms. Pender is a member of New Bethel Church of God In Christ (COGIC); holds membership in Washington DC Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (Golden Life Member), NAACP (Life Member), and various other community and service organizations.

 
Terry Satterfield, Ed.D., Candidate for Trustee

Terry Satterfield, Educational Management Professional, twice President of DCCA, retired from DC Public Schools after 39 years as a classroom teacher, school psychologist and school counselor. During this time, he escorted a delegation of psychology and counseling graduate students to the University of Ghana; spearheaded a counseling program resulting in students' achievement of college acceptance, career crystallization and scholarship reception in unprecedented numbers; counseled students to significantly reduce drop-out rates; and, supervised school counselors in the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) approved program and was a member of the advisory board in the CACREP approved school counseling program at the University of the District of Columbia.

Dr. Satterfield earned his Ed.D. in Counseling (with supporting fields of study in Psychological Assessment and Higher Education), at George Washington University, Washington, DC, a Graduate Diploma in Behavioral Science from The United States Army Academy of Health Sciences, Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX, M.A. in Counseling Psychology, University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO, and a B.S. in Elementary Education, Bowie State College, Bowie, MD. His Post-Doctoral study and training including family therapy and education of exceptional children at George Washington University, the University of the District of Columbia and Trinity (College) University, Washington, DC.

Dr. Satterfield is the recipient of numerous national service and international professional honors and awards, inclusive of but not limited to: listings in ten (10) national and international biographical publications; one of four (4) recipients of the American Mental Health Counseling Associations “Opportunity Award,” recipient of the McCully Award from the District of Columbia Counseling Association (DCCA); among the highest ratings for counselors in the District of Columbia Public Schools; recipient of the Nathaniel Hill Award for School Counseling (highest award in DC); and, recipient of numerous military awards and honors

Additionally, he holds memberships in the following counseling and teaching related organizations: the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Counseling Association (ACA), the District of Columbia Counseling Association (DCCA), Member Emeritus, and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). Dr. Satterfield is also a devoted member of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Prince Hall Masons and Phi Delta Kappa.
