Eligibility

Any person engaged in or interested in any phase of counseling and human development are eligible for membership. The District of Columbia Counseling Association (DCCA) brings together individuals from education, industry, business, behavioral health, and government and includes persons employed as public/private school, vocational, marriage, family, substance abuse/rehabilitation, and behavioral counselors and those engaged in research, measurement and evaluation in the field of guidance and counseling.

Types of Membership and Rates

Regular Members. Any person whose primary responsibilities/interests are in human development is eligible for DCCA membership. Such responsibilities may be in guidance, counseling, or personnel area and extend to such areas as community agency work, school work, school psychology and paraprofessional and professional counseling. A member in good standing is entitled to all rights and privileges of the Association. $50.00 per annum.

Student Members. Bona fide graduate students engaged in counseling, guidance or personnel work, who are devoting more than half-time to study, may join as student members for not more than three (3) consecutive years. Student applicants pay reduced membership dues and must have their application signed by their major subject-field professor. Student members will have all the privileges of individual regular membership. Student members will be members of the District of Columbia Counseling Association’s District of Columbia Counseling Association Bylaws 2 Graduate Counseling Leadership Program, a mentoring, leadership program for graduate students in the DC Metropolitan Area.  Recent Graduates $35.00 and Current Student $25.00 per annum.

Retired Membership. A retired member who has furnished proof of retirement from his/her employer, and who has been a member of DCCA for at least five (5) years is eligible. A retired member pays one half DCCA dues and full dues for divisional affiliation. Retired members will have all the privileges of individual regular membership. $25.00 per annum.

Emeritus Membership. Any member who is 65 years of age or older and has been a member of at least one Division, Branch or its antecedent for at least 20 years is eligible. DCCA Executive Board grants such membership by voting upon the recommendation of a Division or Branch. Emeritus members are exempt from paying dues to the Association and their sponsoring Division but retain the rights and privileges afforded dues-paying members.

Associate membership. Any Division, Corporation or Agency that is in the field or interest of Counseling and Human Development. Associate members will have the privilege of collaborations with the Association and Divisions will specifically have the rights and privileges of a Division in good standing with DCCA. $100.00 per annum.

Terms of Membership

Dues shall cover one term of membership, which is October 1st of the current year through September 30th of the next year.

Severance of Membership

A member may be dropped from membership for any conduct that tends to injure the District of Columbia Counseling Association or to affect adversely its reputation, or that is contrary to or destructive of its mission according to the DCCA Bylaws and ACA Code of Ethics. DCCA members who are permanently expelled from the American Counseling Association due to violation of the ACA Code of Ethics will be permanently expelled from DCCA membership as of the date of the ACA sanction. (b)

A member will be dropped from membership for non-payment of dues.

Human Rights

No person shall be denied membership or otherwise subjected to discrimination on the grounds of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, family responsibility or political affiliation.
